BOV Tazza l-Kbira Final

12th April 2022

BOV Tazza l-Kbira Final on Sunday 24th April

The draws for the 62nd edition of the BOV Tazza l-Kbira were done earlier today at the Marsa Racecourse offices in the presence of the owners of the finalist horses who were eagerly awaiting to know the starting numbers which could very well determine the winner of this most prestigious honour in the local harness racing calendar.

Present for these draws were Mr Charles Azzopardi Executive CSR and Marketing of Bank of Valletta, Dr Matthew Brincat CEO of Marsa Race Track Limited and Mr Anthony Demanuele Horse Owners and Drivers representative on behalf of EquestriMalta.

Anticipation for this final is high as from the six heats on 31st March and two semi finals last Sunday, it is very clear that this year’s competition is on the highest level with the merit for this definitely goes to the horse owners who are doing their utmost to have their horses prepared to give the best performance on the track.

“We are once again looking forward to another exciting final of the BOV Tazza l-Kbira and also looking forward to have the horse racing fans cheering their favourite horses for this event,” said Charles Azzopardi. “Bank of Valletta is committed to Good Health and Well Being in line with its ESG commitments and we take this opportunity to wish the horse owners, drivers, trainers and all those involved in this race the best of luck for the final.”

Amongst the 12 finalists we have last year’s winner Antoine du Bourg who looks to be once again in top shape to defend his title as he has already won both his heat and semi final thus definitely making him one of the favourites. Regardless of this he will be facing tough opposition as we have already seen from his opponents naming Infinite Knight who even though she came from the Gold Category has also won both her heat and the semi final and will be challenging him for the first time. In the field there are several new horses, two of which made their debut in this championship and interestingly we have five horses who before the start of this competition were racing in the Gold category.

The record average time for a final is still attributable to Up And GO when he clocked 1’14”9 in 2019 but the fastest average time in this competition was  1’13”7 registered by Vivaldi du Vivrot in the 2020 semi final as he eventually went on to win the final a fortnight afterwards.
