European Championship for Female Amateur Drivers


This week Norway will be hosting the European Championship for female amateur drivers together with the international organisation for amateur drivers FEGAT.


 


This will be the first time that Malta will be participating in this championship with the Maltese representative being young Cherise Farrugia.


 


18-year old Farrugia has been licenced with the Malta Racing Club since October 2020 and has so far managed to win 35 races, 6 of them during this season. She has been Malta Racing Club’s best u/25 driver for the past two years and has already had an opportunity to represent her country in January 2022 in the Coupe d’Europe des Amateurs held in Vincennes Paris.


 


She will be undertaking two races tomorrow Tuesday 2nd May at the Bjerke racetrack whilst on Wednesday she has one race at Momarken.


 


In this competition there will be 13 female drivers some of them with vast international experience amongst whom there are the Euorpean Amateur Champions of 2015, 2017 and 2018 as well as Italian Elena Villani Orlando who last year was 2nd with equal points at the 1st in the European Female Amateur Championship as well as finishing 3rd in the World Amateur Championship.


 


The participating countries are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Malta.


 


Mt Josef Gtixti is the Malta Racing Club’s representative accompanying Cherise Farrugia.
