Last Leg of the MHRU Championship

On Friday afternoon the Del Mediterraneo Racetrack in Siracusa will be hosting the last leg of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Horse Racing Championship. The Maltese representative will be Nathaniel Barbara who will be wearing the Maltese red colours for the first time.

The race is scheduled to start at 3:05 pm and although there are 8 participants only 4 are eligible for the championship. Nathaniel has drawn number 3 Boss FKS and his opponents will be Milan Kovacevic from Serbia, Romanian Gheorge Tanase and Italian Walter d’Ambrogio. It seems that in this last leg there will be no French representative.

This last leg carries double points which means that the final classification is still quite open. Malta is currently in 4th place with 17 points whilst Italy is first with 24 followed by Romania with 23. France has 19 points and Serbia 13. In the previous legs Malta was represented by Paul Galea and Noel Baldacchino.

During the same programme for the first time there will be the Premio Campionato delle Isole in which three Maltese owners will be participating with their horses. In this race, which will take off at 4:30 pm, Zenny Cup owned by Francois Zammit has drawn number 4 and will be driven by Anthony Demanuele, with number 8 Equateur Mauzun will be driven by his owner Ivan Stivala whilst El Gusto owned by Andrè Farrugia and driven by his daughter Cherise will be taking off with number 10. This race has 10 participants and will be over 1600m.
