Johnnie Walker Cup Final

One of the most prestigious and oldest trophies at the Malta Racing Club is undoubtedly the Johnnie Walker Cup which dates back to 1939. After many years this competition was revived in 2013 when the trophy was organised for a flat racing final but from the following year this competition has always been reserved for Gold Class trotters and now it has established itself as one of the most awaited championships in the second half of the season.

69 horses took part in seven heats on Friday 7th and Sunday 9th October from which half of them qualified for the three semi finals which were raced on Sunday 23rd October so that the twelve horses to take part in the final on Sunday 6th November were identified.

Earlier today, M.Demajo Wines & Spirits Ltd Marketing Manager Alfred Braddick together with Malta Racing Club/EquestriMalta vice chairman Edwin Borg drew the numbers that these horses will be starting with in the final. Present there were also the owners of the finalist horses.

Everyone is expecting a balanced and competitive final judging by the high level of racing one is seeing in this category. Apart from the attractive trophies, the winning horse will be receiving a commemorative horse blanket whilst its owner will take a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label. As always, the sponsor has also thought of giving bottles of whisky to the owners of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed horses and they will be receiving a bottle of Johnnie Walker 18-year old, Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve and Johnnie Walker Green Label respectively.

In this final a total of €2725 in prize money will be distributed.
