BOV Tazza l-Kbira Commences on Thursday

During the last two seasons, the BOV Tazza l-Kbira was held during October as the racing season was suspended due to the Covid 19 pandemic. This year we are pleased to announce that it will once again be held during its traditional period of March/April.

The BOV Tazza l-Kbira is the most prestigious competition in the local horse racing season and every owner and driver aspire to etch their name on the trophy which dates back to 1934. This race boasts a long history of exceptional times having its ups and downs but nothing deters from its prestige.

The 2022 competition starts on Thursday 31st March where a total of 72 horses will participate in six heats with twelve of them making their first start in Malta. The first four from each heat qualify for the semi finals. Amongst the participants are 2019 winner Up and Go who is still the holder of the fastest time in the final, as well as the first three finishers in last year’s edition Antoine du Bourg, Juvels Boy and Venale.

During these last weeks, owners have been preparing their horses and others have imported horses with the intent to compete in the BOV Tazza l-Kbira. Expectations are high amongst racegoers especially as after two years they will once again be able to be present at the track for Thursday’s meeting which is considered as one of the best of the season with all the top horses racing in one day.

The Malta Racing Club is very grateful towards Bank of Valletta who even in the most difficult of times continued to offer their support towards local horse racing and this year once again will be sponsoring this championship which will see the participation of the best horses currently registered with the Malta Racing Club.

Bank of Valletta is committed towards Good Health and Well Being as part of its Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) responsibilties. The Bank supports a large number of sporting initiatives in Malta and Gozo promoting sports and its benefits. The 2022 edition of the BOV Tazza l-Kbira is the 7th competition, 6 of them consecutively, being supported by Bank of Valletta through its collaboration with the Malta Racing Club.
