Maltese Jockey Oliver Briffa representing Malta in Casablanca, Marocco at the Anfa Racetrack

On Friday, 7th May, Maltese horse racing jockey Mr. Oliver Briffa will be participating in the Third Leg of the 2010 Mediterranean Horse Racing Union Championship for Jockeys. The race will be held in Casablanca at the Anfa racetrack. Mr. Briffa is considered in Malta as on of the most experienced jockey on the island, having registered a number of wins going back to when he started in 1988. Before leaving to Marocco, Mr. Briffa said “ after last year’s win in Marocco, I am hopeful of a repeat at this year’s event, but what ever happens I am proud to be representing My country again in an international race.”

The leg is the third one for the 2010 Chmpionshiop after the leg in France and in Malta earlier on this year. Dr. Matthew Brincat, the Malta Racing Club Chairman said “it was very disappointing in France at Cagnes Sur Mer were at the last moment the horse was scratched, which meant that the Maltese Jockey Mr. Michael Sultana could not ride on the day. But these things happen and we are very hopeful for the Marocco leg, which should prove to be another experience for our jockeys”

The draws for this Friday’s race will be held on Thursday 6 May
