Equestrian Festival - 4 Finals on the 25th April

On the 25th April the Marsa Horse Racing Track will be hosting for the first time an Equestrian Festival which is being organised by the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport with the collaboration of the Malta Racing Club, the Malta Equestrian Federation and the Malta Polo Club.

Details of this activity was annouced by the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth & Sport Hon. Clyde Puli together with Bernard Vassallo, Chairman of the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport, and Pippo Psaila the Equestrian Festival Coordinator during a press conference held at the Marsa Racing Club.

Clyde Puli revealed that the objective of this activity is to bring together all the disciplines of Equestrian Sport and offer a platform to showcase the various disciplines in one place. The festival will include various races which will include Pony, Trot and Gallop; Olympic dressage and show jumping; and a Polo match.

The Parliamentary Ssecretary went on to say that the Festival will be a unique opportunity for families to spend a fun filled day at the races which will include an area for various activities for children including an opportunity to take a pony ride.

He emphasised that it was the Ggovernment’s intention that the Marsa Sports Complex as part of the master plan, will offer the best facilities and will cater for all the needs of the various Equestrian Sport disciplines.

Bernard Vassallo, Chairman, of the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport expressed the KMS’s full support for such initiatives and went on to announce that during this same activity funds will be collected to contribute to the Puttinu Cares Fund.

The Ffestival Ccoordinator, Pippo Psaila said, that this is the first time that such a festival is being organised where all the Equestrian Sport disciplines will be brought together to show off their sport to the general public. In Equestrian Sport there is always more than one athlete when it has to be considered that apart from the rider there is also the horse; this is what makes Equestrian Sport so exciting.

The Presidents of the associations involved expressed their support for this activity and confirmed that it will be a unique opportunity for the general public to learn more about Equestrian Sport in Malta. They went on to thank the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport for this unique opportunity and initiative.
The general public can expect a fun-filled festival for all ages and will have the opportunity to see at close hand and experience the excitement of various equestrian disciplines. The Equestrian Festival will take place on Sunday, 25th April at the Marsa Horse Racing Track. Gates open from 8.00am with a full programme of activities up to 5pm. Details of the full programme of activities will be revealed at a later date and will be posted on www.sportmalta.org.mt


The Malta Racing Club Chairman Dr. Matthew Brincat said that it is an honour for the Club to host so many diffferent equestrian activities in one day at this unique event to be held at the Malta Racing Club.

The general public can expect a fun-filled festival for all ages and will have the opportunity to see at close hand and experience the excitement of various equestrian disciplines.

The Full Racing Programme consists of 2 Heats in each of the Silver, Gold and Premier trotting category, distance 1640m, with the 3 Finals to be held on the same day. For Flat Racing enthusiast the top 8 horses in Malta will contest the Flat Racing Final over a distance of 1750m.
