Johnnie Walker Cup Final

This afternoon a press conference was held at the Malta Racing Club which was addressed by the Chairman Mr Edwin Borg and Mr Alfred Braddick who is the Marketing Manager of the sponsor M.Demajo (Wines & Spirits) Ltd.


We are pleased to announce that the renowned company M.Demajo (Wines & Spirits) Ltd has once again sponsored the Gold Category Johnnie Walker harness racing championship. For this we are especially grateful to the Marketing Manager Mr Alfred Braddick especially as this championship has become much awaited and appreciated by all owners, drivers and racegoers.

During the press conference, Mr Braddick confirmed that they will also be sponsoring the Johnnie Walker Cup in 2018.


This year’s competition took off on Friday 6th and Sunday 8th October with 6 heats from which 24 horses qualified for the two semi finals raced last Sunday. This means that now the original 58 horses have beccome 12 and today the owners of these horses will themselves draw the numbers by which each finalist will depart behind the autostart on Sunday 5th November.


The race will be the 7th one of the programme starting at 3:55 pm with a total of €1600 in prize money. The winner gets €900 and a commemorative horse blanket As well as engraving his name on the Johnnie Walker Cup which dates back to 1939. Apart from this there are trophies for the first four finishers and M.Demajo (Wines & Spirits) Ltd are offering a bottle of JohnnieWalker Blue Label to the winner, Johnnie Walker Platinum for the 2nd placed, for third place they will get a Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve and the fourth placed will receive a bottle of JohnnieWalker Green.
